Special bulletin: Join Sir John Hegarty for an Online Discovery Session

In this special edition, Sir John Hegarty shows why creativity is vital to our wellbeing and business success - and invites you to explore it at Discovery Day.

Art Saves Lives

Art Saves Lives.

Some years ago, I was asked to design a poster to help raise money for charity. Never one to hold back on a claim, I went all in. The headline was simple: Art saves lives. To emphasise the point, I added Morse code beneath each letter as a way of signalling the urgency of what I believed: that creativity isn’t decoration, it’s a lifeline.

Of course, not everyone agreed. Some said I was overstating the case. They thought art might inspire or entertain, but save lives? That, they felt, was a step too far. Naturally, I ignored them.

I’m glad I did. Because in recent years, science has come along to back up what I had felt instinctively. A book I’ve been praising, Your Brain on Art, makes the argument with far more scientific rigour. Written by a neuroscientist and a Google designer, it shows that creativity is wired into us. It’s in our DNA. And failing to engage that part of ourselves is not just unwise - it’s injurious to our health and wellbeing.

Creativity is wired into us. Its in our DNA.

Think about it. Over the last fifty years, we’ve learned to care for our bodies. Exercise became a mainstream habit. Now gyms sit on almost every street corner. We understand that fitness leads to longer, healthier lives. In the same way, creativity will become the next frontier of wellbeing.

That’s the thinking behind my course - Creativity for Growth. It’s why we built it: to help people and organisations treat creativity not as a luxury, but as a necessity. To learn how to develop it, harness it, and build your creative capability.

If you’d like to explore that idea further, join us for Discovery Day. It’s a live session where I’ll share the thinking behind the course, answer your questions, and make the case for why creativity really does matter - in life, in health, and in business.

Because art really does save lives. And creativity may just save your business too.
